Heartland Waystation
A waystation is where travelers stop to rest, refuel and fly on. Ours is a proposed nature center in Kansas City where monarchs, neighbors, veterans, young leaders and Rotary clubs all find what they need, then carry it out into the world.
Five ways to rest, refuel and fly on
Everyone who stops here leaves stronger
Monarchs refuel
Milkweed and nectar for the migration
Veterans restart
A year of home, purpose and a career launch
Neighbors are fed
Fresh food grown for local pantries
Young people launch
STEAM, leadership and Rotaract
Clubs carry it home
Plants and know-how for Peace Gardens everywhere

A Rotary Peace Garden in the heart of the country
Four Sister Gardens, shared with Rotary clubs in Mexico, the U.S. and Canada, surround a Peace Pole ringed with milkweed. Our goal is to dedicate the garden on the UN International Day of Peace, September 21, 2027, during the year Kansas City's own Larry A. Lunsford serves as Rotary International President.

Growing food for neighbors
A greenhouse with aquaponics, shrimp and microgreens, solar panels over crops, community plots and a year-round fish pond, all growing for local pantries.

Grow here, plant everywhere
Our pollinator nursery starts milkweed and wildflowers for gardens and cemeteries along The Peace Flyway, and teaches Rotary clubs how to plant Peace Gardens back home.

A fresh start for those who served
Transitioning veterans live on site for a year in small, energy-smart homes while they care for the land and launch new careers.
